I have just read about the Dedicated Servers launch.

In our experience offering a VPS, makes the transistion easier to a dedicated box. Would be great if you HoistingFest could offer VPS solution.

I just wanted to have some opinions

What if the packages are like this

20GB Space
250GB Bandwidth
512 MB RAM
$69

40GB Space
500GB Bandwidth
1GB Dedicated Ram
$119

With Windows 2003 Standard.
Some Free Software.

HELM/Plesk at $20/month additional.

I am just thinking aloud wanted some opinions.

It certainly would make a nice stepping stone before going to a Dedicated Server. You should check out some Linux ones as those of us with Linux reseller plans grow as well.

Plans seem quite good. Maybe you can work on the details of software and level of support/management .

Let me work on licences and get some deals because i will atleast want to give the smartertools package for free. Management should include full daily backups and full support.

Continue discussing while i come to some preliminary pricing structure.

I think its a good idea. It would be nice to see if the place you setup with has any options for renting a MS SQL and/or ColdFusion license(s).

I think the VPS is a nice go-between before having to shell a ton of money out for a full-blown dedicated.

Windows VPS is not useful as you cannot host more than 10 high traffic sites even with 512 MB RAM.

Can you clarify what you mean by High traffic sites... how many GB/month of transfer? Plus most VPS have burstable RAM so peak loads are taken care by the burstable RAM...

Our Deal with HELM on this is in final stages, MSSQL will be a free option upto a certain amount of databases or disk space.

VPS will be an excellent in-between before a full-blown server.

Now with HELM, how would that work? Would be have the admin-type account and be able to setup reseller accounts and such or will it work the same as it does with our current accounts.

If we can setup our own resellers on the VPS, I would be very interested because it would allow me to merge my reseller accounts into one VPS account.

A few free MSSQL - thats great, how much will it be for extra, if needed?

Have you looked into any options for ColdFusion? I guess this would apply to dedicated servers too. Does Adobe have any licenses that would allow rental? Like add ColdFusion to your VPS or dedicated for $25 a month? I saw this kind of option at a host in the past but I don't recall any details.

As much as I would love to own my own copy of CF Server, I'm just not making the money right now.
