-Shouldn't the forums be Members only with some area open to general public ?
I would prefer it so.

-Just feel the discussion could be free and more detailed, maybe members would feel more comfortable speaking in a selected group than in open forum.
Maybe a good idea to take a members poll on this, if they prefer this ?

I have one more suggestion. If you goto Google and search TheCoolServer - http://www.google.com/se...J:en&q=thecoolserver the first site will come in the results is HostingFest Forum. So anybody who is a little smart will understand who is reseller and who is the actual company which is against the anonymity of reseller ship. I would suggest you to please add rules in your robots.txt file for not to crawl Forums. Example - http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/norobots.html#examplesWhat everybody has to say about this?

We agree with this. I second this.

I've been reading this forum through rss for about 2 months now. If I had to register to read them, I wouldn't have. That might sound great, and be the answer to your original statement, but if I wasn't able to read these forums, I wouldn't use this host. So hand and hand, these forums promote business. The only reason why I took the time to register now is because I'm leaning toward hostingfest at this point (August). |

I think what is important is for HostingFest to review,
How much business it get from those who prefer a closed Members Forums
v/s
How much business they get from those whom rss feeds is a primary criteria in choosing a host.
Maybe they can balance both, by having a Members Only forum and a blog with rss feeds. RSS feeds are primary to provide news and updates, not discussions - an anouncement blog with rss feed should do it.

I'm not trying to be a pain in the butt...but why? What's the big secret here? I mean, this isn't about an AA meeting or health problems, nobody's even sharing code here. I originally read this post probably about a month ago and I haven't seen anybody give any good reason of why it should be that way. I can give a few reasons why it shouldn't...for instance, every page that has the name hostingfest.com on it is potential for a SE to index. That's not a bad thing when considering "this particular page" may one day bring in 1 new client at $100 or so a year. That's not a bad payment for doing nothing additional besides answering an existing client's question. Now consider that same $100 a year person (me in this case even though I haven't officially signed up yet) has already added my "good" opinion about this site to a few host review sites. So, there might already be a few new clients that signed up because of me...and like I said, I'm only here because I've had the chance to review what's going on here. Why hide anything? That's part of the reason why I thought this place was so great in the first place. Things aren't 100% here, but the staff isn't trying to hide the problems...as a matter of fact they're right here telling you what's going on. They know what they're talking about...that's a big plus these days. They really look out for their clients. It seems hostingfest is a newer business that is still ironing out the wrinkles...but I also think they WILL be ironed out. This is the kind of place I want to be a part of...but the only reason why I know all this, is because I had the chance to read it for myself. |
