Just one client has asked me for MySQL 5 as so now in last one year.

This could be due to that I have large Knowledgebase and a prospective client read that what are versions on installed software on server, therefore, they don't send me mail asking this.

But it would be great if we could have this added to the server.

Hello,

one of the interesting new features of MySQL 5.0 are stored procedures. IMO this is by itself a good reason for providing MySQL latest version to your customers. MySQL's stored procedures are something I, for example, would be interested in trying out.

Is it possible to have both mysql 4 and 5 on the same server so that we can select between them?

I believe it is not. MySQL uses a standard port and on any given port only one server application may be listening. You could always change the port on the client apps you are using ... but while this is simple in rich-client apps, I'm not sure this is supported in all libraries (OLEDB, ODBC, managed).
But really, there would be no reason to have both .... MySQL 5.0 provides everything that version 4.0 provided.

I'll add my vote for upgrading to MySQL 5.0. Stored procs, triggers and views are all nice new features. 5.0 also includes a number of performance improvements - http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/mysql-5-0-nutshell.html.

Why add if MySQL 5 is completely backward compatible? Any MySQL 4.1 user would see no difference.

- If MySQL 5 will be the only version available for both Windows & Linux hosting, after upgrade. It is best to wait.

- Lets not get the exotic customer at the cost of the average client.
