New Features
The SmarterMail development team has made significant enhancements in SmarterMail 3.x. Some of the more notable features are:
Professional Edition:
* 45% performance increase in SMTP, Delivery and Application Startup (domain loading) * Calendaring with invite and event notification * Task lists * Ability to import/export contacts from the web interface * RSS, RDF, and ATOM news feed reader within the web mail interface * Modern AJAX message listing within the web mail interface * User specific Time Zone adjustments within the web mail interface * Enhancements to mailing lists and the addition of web services to support them * SMTP Plus Addressing support * Default domain settings with propagation utility * Default user settings * Spam blocking at the SMTP level (dropping connections immediately) * Additional Denial of Service (DoS) protection * Sub spooling eliminating NTFS file limitations and the potential of spool backup * Declude Integration (see below for details) * Many more!
We are also pleased to introduce SmarterMail Enterprise Edition, which not only builds upon SmarterMail Pro but also adds:
* Shared Calendaring, Contacts (Global Address Lists), Tasks, and Folders for Domains for total collaboration * Outlook integration for Calendaring and Contacts * LDAP support allowing contacts to be integrated into Outlook for Global Address Lists * Active Directory authentication support * Archiving of delivered messages at Domain and/or System level (important for compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002)

what's the chances of that happening in the semi near future? the calendar features would be very useful for me!

Yes we know and we attempted to upgrade one server but the upgrade failed and we restored version 2 from backup(taken just before upgrade) so we think there are some rough edges at this time we will try upgrade again on this sunday or the next one, depending upon how it works out with our email to smartertools. Nice! and yeah holding off for a while to let them iron out bugs is always a wise plan - i tend to prefer to wait at least a couple of months, unless it's security related.

I have a client that wants the ability to add the sender to his contacts directly from email. This functionality is available in v3. Any idea when you will re-visit this upgrade? Thanks

Yes we will but to upgrade on all servers we will have to upgrade the licence on some therefore you will have to wait for sometime more.

Something annoying with the new version is the way if you slightly miss a checkbox when selecting multiple emails to delete / remove it opens the message. the checkbox area really shouldn't be clickable outside of the checkbox. it makes it a right pain to delete out a load of spam for example as you end up selecting about ten to delete then miss one checkbox and have to start again.
If anyones in touch with smertertools please feel free to pass that on!

I agree - that is SOOOOOO annoying. I hate it. I think I'm clicking the box and boom I'm in the message.

Also something i just spotted in spam settings, for some reason these entries were in our trusted list: and they all look like spam addresses to me. any idea how they would have been added to the approved senders list? i didn't add them!? (and have now removed them)

Yeah it was the beta release. i'm guessing they tried it to see if it resolved the current email problems. It's reverted back to v3 now.
Fair enough really it's usually not the best idea to run beta software on a production box. Having said that it looks really really nice, much better interface and the new spam stuff should really help. The main concern though is whether it can keep with the amount of email being sent and received on a large shared environment.
